Switched On is a free educational rail safety programme. In order to continue to deliver high quality, engaging resources we have introduced a registration page requiring users to sign up to be able to download resources. This helps us to evaluate content to make sure it meets the needs of educators and their pupils.
Living Switched On

You’re never too far from the tracks. Are you Living Switched On, this Rail Safety Week?

Young people often make responsible choices around the tracks but there can be times when their decision making can be compromised. Living Switched On explores a range of themes such peer pressure, the perils of group mindset and the impact of decisions.

Living Switched On!

Rail Safety Week

Rail Safety Week offers the perfect opportunity to bring potentially life-saving rail safety education into the classroom and help students aged 12-16 to develop their skills and understanding of staying Switched On and safe.

Each day we’ll be spotlighting different resources from the Living Switched On programme to help you bring rail safety education to life in your learning contexts. Every day resources will focus on central theme to help you build your student’s rail safety knowledge.

Check back daily for suggested activities. Timings and further guidance for how to deliver resources can be found in the Teacher Guidance on each resource page.

Learning outcome: To understand the speed and power of trains and electricity around the railway and know the key signs to pay attention to.

Students start with the Track facts: Get Switched On (20mins) to assess and build on existing knowledge and understanding of the railway. Next, they’ll explore the science behind the main dangers on the railway with our Big Manny science lessons (45-60mins).

If you're short for time, check out our on-demand video (10-15mins) which brings together key learnings from both resources into one, ready-to-use lesson.
