Join Suzi and all her friends on her journey to the nature reserve, this Rail Safety Week
From learning the importance of staying with an adult, to understanding what a level crossing does and how to behave around the rail environment, pupils will learn a range of essential Switched On safety skills.
Rail Safety Week
Rail Safety Week offers the perfect opportunity to bring potentially life-saving rail safety education into the classroom and help pupils aged 3-6 to develop their skills and understanding of staying Switched On and safe.
Each day we’ll be spotlighting different resources from the Switched On Travels with Suzi programme to help you bring rail safety education to life in your learning contexts. Every day resources will focus on central theme to help you build your pupils’ foundational rail safety knowledge.
Check back daily for suggested activities. Timings and further guidance for how to deliver resources can be found in the Teacher Guidance on each resource page.
Learning outcome: Pupils can name and describe key things they might find at a train station: as well as demonstrate safe behaviour at a station
From platforms and footbridges to train stations and ticket barriers, get pupils familiar with key things they might encounter on a train journey through real-life images in our At the station with Suzi (30mins) resource.
Put foundational learning to practice through role play with Build a station with Station Manager Sarah (15+mins).
If you're short for time, check out our on-demand video (10mins) which combines key learnings from both resources in one easy-to-use, bitesize lesson.
